404 Page Error in Technical SEO

In technical SEO, a “404 page error” happens when the webpage you’re trying to visit can’t be found. This problem is one of the most critical problems among the response codes. This can occur if there are changes in how the website is organized, some pages get deleted, or if there are mistakes in the links. Sometimes, it happens when someone types the wrong website address or if there’s a problem with the server. This issue isn’t suitable for users and can affect SEO. You need to correct or remove the link to the missing page to fix it.

Why is a 404 Page Error Important for SEO?

The “404 page error” is essential for SEO because when internal links lead to these dead pages, known as “broken links,” it creates a bad user experience. Visitors might leave your site if they encounter pages that don’t exist. Many 404 pages can also use the “crawl budget” as search engines try to access these non-existent pages through links. To keep users happy and help SEO, it’s vital to fix and reduce 404 errors.
